Eek!

Katt had her dental checkup today, her first checkup in over 5 years. The poor girl has many cavities and might even need a root canal. We don’t have dental insurance either, so the costs will be out of pocket for us. Still, it’s actually still cheaper for us to go without insurance that it would be if we’d spent money on insurance for the last 5 years. Insurance is great if you have to have lots of major work done consistently year by year, but it’s a ripoff if you have good teeth or need only minor work ever 4 or 5 years. Starting next week she starts a series of 3 or 4 cleanings, one per week for 3 or 4 weeks. Then after that she starts with the fillings and root canal, which could take another month or two depending on how much work they want to do at a time.

I’m glad she went though. Having good teeth is very important!

I had a good weekend. I stopped at Purdy’s chocolates on Saturday and got some easter chocolate for hiding. Tanuki spent much of the weekend here, and she loves to have easter. I was happy to oblige. Katt woke up early Sunday morning and hid the chocolate and woke me up when Tanuki started to notice the little eggs and chocolate treats that ahd been hidden about the condo. I really love to watch Tanuki get excited and bouncy; she’s incredibly cute and has an amazing smile.

I was lazy for much of the weekend. I did some work here and there, did some site updates, did some server maintenance, and some advertizing. We even had a photo shoot on Sunday afternoon. We’re still behind with scheduling new photo shoots, but we are working on it.

I’ve been cuddling the puppies a lot lately too. I adore my dogs. Iggy and Bella are amazing beings. Bella is super cuddly and sweet; every night she sleeps curled up in the crook of my arm or belly. Iggy is the best running partner. He skips and dances when it’s windy and gives me lots of cuddles when we sit on the sofa together. They’re both pretty goofy.

Today I had a lot of blood taken for blood tests for Crohn’s disease. The blood taking lady wasn’t very good and the needle hurt like a SOB. It’s a good thing I don’t mind needles. I also stopped by the library and got some office supplies on the way back. And, of course, I ran today too.

I haven’t had a lot of energy lately, which I’ve learned may be a side effect of Crohn’s, if indeed I have Crohn’s. It could also just be the fact I’m not eating great, but I’ll know by mid May for sure. I’m trying to keep my exercise as regular as possible, even on days I feel tired, because it actually helps to bring my energy level up. The unfortunate aspect of not having much energy is that my sex drive has been super low lately. It sucks! Even when I have felt horny I’ve lacked the energy to do much about it. Blech. I’m eagerly anticipating figuring out what my low energy is from and getting it solved. I’d love to have the energy for some wild monkey sex. I need to spend some time swinging someone from the rafters!

You know, the problem with one pope dying is that they just replace him with another one.

Running #3

4.61k in 30:58 running with Bella today. I think I’ll take Bella with me less often. She gets spooked by manhole covers, strollers, and strange nooises, and jumps between my legs for safety, which means I trip and she gets thumped. She will get e found thatbetter with experience, but I am not in a rish to get her totally up to speed.

I’ve found that it is not my cardio that bothers me when I ruin, it’s the cramps in my hamstrings. They get really sore. I stretch before, during, and after the run too. I think it’s an issue of time until they get used to running.

Much fun.

Running #2

I took Iggy with me on my run today. We walked for 3 minutes to warm up, and then did the rest of the 4.6k. I did it in 33:38 today, 3 minutes slower than the last time. Iggy was stopping to do his business the first 1/2 of the run, and the last 1.4 of the run he was *really* slow. Poor guy. We used to run together all the time a few years ago, and he could outrun me. He’s lost some cardio since we stopped running together. He’ll get back into shape very soon.

Taking out the time for 6 stop lights at 30 seconds a stop light, and stopping for dog business, I’m probably just under 30 mins for the whole run. Not too shabby.

I found an interesting nutritional calculator today. This calculator figures out your nutritional needs based on a 60/25/15 ratio between carbs, fat, and protein. A more healthy weight for me would be around 195lbs, so I set mine for losing 2lbs a week and these were my results.

Your Nutrition Facts
Calorie Daily Value 3,310 Calories from Fat 990
Total Fat 110 g
   Saturated Fat 36 g
Cholesterol 300 mg
Sodium 2,400 mg
Potassium 3,500 mg
Total Carbohydrate 455 g
   Dietary Fiber 25 g
   Sugars 83 g
Protein 124 g

I still have to cut out the vast quantities of sugar. No more than 10% of calorie intake should be taken in the form of sugar. Right now over 40% of my intake is sugar in the form of cola and chocolate. I picked up some frozen dinners last night that are in the healthy range.

I really would like to be healthier than I am, especially since I’m being tested for Crohn’s disease and there’s a family history of heart disease and diabetes. My diet is the main thing I can do to change my health.

Running Journal

2.88 miles(4.61k) in 30mins – including the time I had to wait for traffic lights. That means I was running at an average 10m:24s per mile. The goal is to shave that down to 7min/mile in 8 weeks.

This is the 5k program I am using, roughly, to get into shape starting at week six, since I can already run a few miles without stopping. Once I do week six through 8, I’ll start the 10k program.

Now all I need are running buddies that can run during the day time, which is hard to fidn given 90% of people work during the day.

Fun stuff.

teeth

It’s dentists day again today. I have 6 more appointments at the student hygeinist clinic before I’m finished, each being 2h:15mins long. I don’t mind going to the dentist at all. I am starting to feel like I should have spend the extra 150 bucks and gone to a regular dentist where I would have been finished in 2 hours completely rather than the 20+ hours I’ll have spent at the student clinic by the time I’m done.

It sounded like such a good idea at the time.

If there are any local graphic designers that want a commission, please get in touch with me via e-mail and I’ll give you more details.
