We had a fabulous weekend. We spent every night at a beach or a river under a clear sky. It was awesome.
Unfortunately, we had a few minor issues. Our sweage tank started leaking some time between the last time I emptied it and today. We stopped at a DQ to get some ice cream and I saw waste water dripping from the side of the van. Not good. Lovely that I keep needing to spend money to fix a van I just bought. Anyways, we emptied the tanks and drove back to Victoria. I’m waiting for a call back from the sales guy we got it from with a recommendation for a god place to bring it in to get fixed on the Island.
We also had a hubcap go missing, but that is not a big deal; it’s easy to replace. The big deal is that we’re going to have to bring te van in to get fixed asap so we can go eastwards. It also means we may have to delay seeing friends wen we get back into town.
Ah well.

Here are a couple of photos from our trip up Island. The first is from Qualicum Beach, and the second was taken about 20 minutes out of Port Hardy. Notice the snow!

Katt has been quite sick over the last 4 days. We came back to Victoria early to give her a nice warm bed and den to sleep in. If she is well enough we’ll tour the Island some more before we go back to Vancouver on the 27th.
I had some issues with the Van the other day. I had the left rear dual wheels checked out because the rear end was vibrating at high speed. It turns out the rim was bent on the inner wheel so we replaced the rim. I also had the spare checked and I discovered that the spare tire sucked ass so I replaced that as well. I keep telling myself that since we got the vehicle for a bargain price it should be much less painful to have to put money into it.
There are a few other issues with the van, but nothing insurmountable or overly expensive. The tires were the really expensive part and, even then, I got a great deal on tires. We are going to get roof vent covers for the air vents on the roof of the van so that we can keep nthe vents open when it rains. As it is we have to keep them closed when it rains or when we drive so we don’t get wet if we have the vent open and so they don’t rip off in the wind. A cross breeze would be very nice.
We’ll be back in Vancouver on the 27th, we think, and we’ll be in town until May 4th or 5th and then we’ll be going eastward. Our trip east has to take place in 3.5 weeks or less now that Katt has rescheduled her surgery, so well be visiting only a few people along the way east, but we’ll drive back a bit slower and do more of our touristy and social things along the way back home.

We are outside the Public Library in Port Hardy doing some site updates and catching up with some work. We started driving on Thursday and we made it to Tofino that day. We stayed at a forestry service campsite for the first night, and the next night we stayed at an RV site that was right on MacKenzie Beach. It was glorious.
We’ve had crazy weather. We’ve been hailed on, rained on, sleeted on, and we’ve had brilliant sunshine. OVerall it’s been very very wet, however. We started driving towards Port Hardy yesterday and we stayed overnight at a rest stop just outside of town. We arrived in Port hardy around 11am this morning and the first thing we did was look for an internet connection.
The scenery has been absolutely gorgeous. Other than the isolation, this would be a lovely area to live.
I finally took a photo of our RV when we were at McKenzie Beach.

When I took the picture it had just finished raining and snowing and I was trying to get a few photos of the different weather, but the camera ran out of battery power right after I snapped this photo. Ah well. This is home. It’s nice and cozy for the 2 people and two puppies. It’s damned nasty on gas though. I am lucky if I get 12mpg. I mean VERY lucky. Again, ah well. We don’t have to pay the mortgage, so I just think of gas expense as a living expense.
Katt will be posting more photos at The Pillow Book, I’m sure. Only one of us can use the external HD (where we store all the photos, websites, and videos) at a time, so that means we take turns posting. I’m less patient, so I just did the neccessary site updates and copied the one photo over. And I’m done!
Oh yes, I had a lovely birthday filled with lots of pie, make your own sushi, and tasty beer. And my cold is even gone! Unfortunately, the lovely lassie is now sick with the stomach bug that we’ve been told is making the rounds. Hopefully she’ll recover fast, because sick girls are not happy girls.
More another time!
In 17 minutes, give or take, I’ll be 35.
I forgot completely about my birthday until Katt asked me what I wanted to eat for dinner on my birthday yesterday. There’s been so much going on that it has been very far from my mind. Happily though I have a big extended family dinner tomorrow where we’ll be feasting on sushi and pie. Can’t go wrong with sushi and pie.
Anyhoo. I shall be off now.

We made it to Victoria in one piece. The drive over was made very smooth by the new tires we had put on the van yesterday. I decided to get 6 new tires instead of just 4 so that I have the same tire brand on the vehicle. That will mean we can rotate the tires properly and they should all last longer as a result.
I will take measurements from the van later today so I can have a custom made lock box installed to protect our valuables. I will have it bolted to the floor so it is not removable -at all-. I don’t like the idea of having our computers, cameras, and documents easily accessible; much too easy to steal that way.
I have a cold. It figures that I’d get sick at the start of our adventure. I hope it goes away fast. Sleeping when totally clogged up is not fun!
I’ll be taking photos of our new home and posting them once the weather gets a little nicer. And I’ll be posting photos of our travels as well once we start on the ‘real’ trip. Right now we’re ‘pre-trip’ and there’s nothing to post other than photos of things you’ve already seen before. I want to post photos of Katt and I naked in the woods and on the beach.
So anyways. We’re now in Victoria.
If you have contacted me in the past about photos, just get in touch and we can schedule something.

Our first RV park experience was rather lacklustre. The pool and jacuzzi were closed and the park itself was overpriced compared to other parks a little further out. It was a place to stay though for a few days while we figured out the whole van living thing.
We found out we’re going to need to put 4 new tires on the back of the van. Yes, 4; the van has dual rear wheels on each side. The current tires are all mismatched. Thankfully, I can replace the tires for a reasonable price. The thing about having mismatched tires with different depths of tread is that some tires bear more weight than others, which increases the likelihood of the tires overheating and exploding. An exploding tire can take out the wheel well and part of the side of the vehicle. I can’t imagine the cost involved in repairing the damage!
We had a small water leak from the water tank hoses and the microwave wasn’t working so we brought the van back to the dealership and they had us fixed and ready to go in under an hour. I love this RV place; they’ve done everything they can to ensure we’re happy customers. We got a fantastic deal to begin with on the van, so all the extras they’ve thrown in are great.
We’ve been having really spotty internet connections so we haven’t been able to keep up with our work. We do as much as we can while offline and then madly update what we can once we’re online. We’ll be making use of internet cafes along the way methinx. Must be able to work!
Living in the RV has definitely affected how often I masturbate. It’s kind of an odd environment to be in for any kind of sex actually, unless the beds are made. If the beds are made it’s fine, but during the day there’s nowhere really to lie down and get to it. We shall see how this progresses.
Tomorrow, we’re going to get new tires on the back of the RV and get two vent hoods installed on the top of the van so we can drive with the vents open and get better circulation. Today, I picked up a few things related to waste disposal and some freezer paks to keep the fridge cold when we can’t run the fridge.
We’re heading to Vancouver Island of Sunday, so as I mentioned before, book our time ahead!

An RV park!
We’re officially RV’ing! I am trying not to make bad trailer trash jokes. So far so good.
Let me tell you about my day.
The first thing I did today was return my car to the car dealership I bought it from. It took some fanangling, but they took it back. Yay for me!
After that I skytrained all the way back from Brentwood Mall to the North Shore.
Then we packed up and drove to storage and got all the van boxes and filled the van with boxes.
We then led a vain search for fraserway rv. We eventually decided to worry about finding it another day and we drove to the RV park where we’re now at.
After an evening of unpacking all of our boxes we realized we had very little food in the van. Poor planning on our part. THankfully we had some canned pasta and soup to heat up on the stove.
AH. THe microwave in the RV doesn’t work. The turntable spins round and round, but no heating happens. Guess what I get to do tomorrow?
Tomorrow we go buy food, get the microwave looked at, and hopefully go to walmart.
Such an exciting life!
We are heading to Vancouver Island on Sunday or Monday and we’ll be there for a few weeks. If you’re on VI and want to get together for a meal, photos, or drink, let me know
