Thanks for the lovely comments for Katt and the positive energy!
We got results from a CT scan and ultrasound that were done while she was in hospital and it turns out she has 3 fibroids in her uterus. Two are 8cm in diameter, and one is 9cm in diameter. Basically, she has 3 grapefruit sized fibrous tumors in her uterus. All benign, thankfully. She was discharged today with instructions to contact the OB/GYN she saw in the hospital to arrange to have surgery for either the first or second week of October. Because of the size of the fibroids the only treatment for them is an hysterectomy. She’ll have to have everything removed except for her ovaries (which are in lovely shape). Having her ovaries intact means she won’t need HRT, which is a good thing. Poor girl though. This will be her second surgery in the last 5 months. A hysterectomy is not laproscopic either; it requires a vertical incision in the stomach and it takes much more time to recover from than her lap band surgery did. On the plus side, she’ll never have a period again and our no baby policy will be completely cemented. Still.. poor girl. Her plan is to have her recovery from surgery coincide with unpacking into our new place. She’ll set herself up on the sofa and micromanage and be the recovery goddess.
The last 10 days have been incredibly stressful. Between looking for a place to live and the hospital visits to emergency it’s been crazy crazy freakin crazy hella stressful. My head didn’t explode so thats a good sign.
Of course, with all the stress we’ve been under I’ve been eating shitty again for about the last month and I’ve put on at least 5-7lbs of the 20lbs I lost over the summer. Thankfully it is just a matter of getting back on track.
The lovely one has been hospitalized with some sort of abdominal tumor. She noticed a hard lump in her lower abdomen the 2 evenings ago and woke up the following morning with the lump seeming quite big. She went to emergency to make sure it was nothing serious. The Dr at the time felt it might be a fibrous uterus and ordered an ultrasound for the following day. She was discharged and then she had the ultrasound the following morning (Monday). She woke up today feeling very nauseous and she had discomfort in her abdomen, and it got progressively worse over the course of the day so we re-admitted her to the hospital. They have the ultrasound photos from this morning but they haven’t been interpreted yet so she has to stay there overnight at least so she can get the results from that. In the in between time she’s had really severe abdominal pain which has left her in tears. The Dr in the ER gave her medication for the nausea and the pain. I finally left the ER after she got her shots so she could try to relax and fall asleep.
The tumor/growth/whateverhtehellitis is the size of a football and it seems to have doubled in size in the last 36 hours. It goes from one size of her abdomen to the other horizontally and vertically from her pelvic bone up past her navel.
I really feel bad for her. She’s had a number of healh issues over the last 15 years and she never seems to get much of a break. In this case, if the tumor is indeed a fibrous uterine tumor, she may have to get an hysterectomy. That seems to be the typical way of dealing with any uterine growth larger than 10cm (4″). Of course, there are other possbilities as well. She could have a cancerous growth on the unterus or the ovaries. She could have internal bleeding which has led to fluid in the abdominal cavity, There are any number of explanations but most of them leading, one way or the other, to an hysterectomy.
Thankfully this didn’t hot while her depression was in full swing. Thankfully, that end has been stable for a while now. Even so, I am keeping an eye on how she’s feeling, because finding out you have a tumor is very stressful and depressing. My poor angel.
So if you have a moment to spare, please send some positive energy her way. She could really use it.
