Age and Stage

I’m coming up on my 46th birthday. This is the first year of my life where I’m starting to feel my age.

I haven’t been taking as good care of myself over the last year as I should have been. I got out of the habit of exercising and eating well, and being a person that needs to be active to feel happy and healthy, it’s impacted my bottom line in my Wolfe-life satisfaction. I’ve been making an effort these past few weeks to get back into the swing of things.

We’re preparing for a kayak trip this summer. I’m not expecting the kayaking to be horribly difficult, but I would like to be as resilient as possible for the week or so we’ll be out on the water. The only concern I have is how hard the ground is going to be at night. My back doesn’t like to sleep on hard surfaces. Getting back into the gym will certainly build the kind of stamina I will need.

I’ve decided that it’s important to do some kind of trip every year.  We didn’t last year and I definitely missed it. We were really hoping to go to Portland this year. We had so much fun when we went in 2015. We had also hoped to go to the eastern US, but with the current political climate we decided to stay close to home.  Next year I’m hoping we can do a longer trip, perhaps to the UK or Japan. I like having something to look forward to and plan for.

I bought my first suit in March, and it arrived last week. It turns out I clean up pretty well. I’ve been wanting to get one for 6 or so years, but I could never justify the cost. I finally decided I should do something nice for myself, so I did! The suit is a lovely midnight blue. I like it a lot.

We went to the VSO last weekend and watched Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets with the live Orchestra. The time before that we saw Raiders of the Lost Ark. It’s definitely an experience. Usually the crowds are very passionate about the movie and the music, which makes it quite fun.

We have this week off to relax and catch up on sleep. So far we’ve done some family stuff and worked in the garden. The rest of the week will be some much needed body tune-ups, along with some more family time and relaxation.

Oh yes, the kitten is a Zelda fan, so we picked up a Switch and got her the new Zelda game. I am not much of a gaming person and am not really playing much myself, but it’s been fun to watch her play. It’s a fun, if repetitive, story. I enjoy listening to her curse as fearsome creatures try to smoosh her.
