Jailed!

No, not me.  I figured out how to jail ftp uses on my server.  not very exciting to you maybe, but it prevents people I set up with ftp accounts from being able to view my entire directory structure for the virtual domain they are set up on.  A pox on sharing!  With our 50/50 revshare program in place for models on Curvosity,  I’ll be setting up may different subdomains for the different models, and I only want them to have access to their folder.  I am so smart!

I think I already mentioned that our place goes on the market on Monday and that I have to clean our place to a shiny shine over the weekend so it’s nice for people who are viewing the place next week.  Clean sells.

Katt got a call from her lap band surgeon’s office today.  She’s was asked to fill out a medical questionairre, choose the flavour of liquid food she wants, and send a deposit.  They only gave her a choice of chocolate and vanilla, neither of which she likes.  They’re also going to charge her for the meal replacements, so she wrote back and told them that she wanted to provide her own liquid meal replacement for before and after surgery.  That way she can buy something that has a taste.  The deposit itself is reasonable considering the cost for the entire surgery.  We’ll send all that info off to the clinic once we hear back about the meal replacements.

OH!!  I entered a 45 player sit and go poker tournament last night and got 3rd place.  I won $7.  I was in first place with three people left, then I went all in with three Queens, and I lost when the other person came up with a straight.  I had a few thousand chips left, and I mounted a valiant comeback, but I didn’t have the chips to fold any cards because the blinds would have knocked me out.  Still, I won 7 bucks on a $1 game!

More poker happiness

Ξ December 21st, 2005 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Poker |

I played poker for an hour or so tonight. After going up and down for a bit, I ended up +$8 for the hour of play. For the 2 hours I played over the whole day, I’m up $15. And this is playing .01/.02 stakes in no limit hold’em.

I made most of it on my final hand. I had an AdQd, and flopped a flush draw. The turn didn’t do me any good. I knew at least one person had 3 of a kind (4’s), and decided to keep up with the betting and see what the river had to offer. I had 9 outs, and pot odds of 2:1, so I couldn’t not call on the river.

Total pot $13.68 Main pot $5.19. Side pot-1 $0.54. Side pot-2 $7.30. | Rake $0.65
Board [8d 4c 4d 3h 7d]
Seat 1: MisterWolfe showed [Ad Qd] and won ($13.03) with a flush, Ace high
Seat 2: folded on the Flop
Seat 3: folded before Flop (didn’t bet)
Seat 4: showed [Kh Jd] and lost with a pair of Fours
Seat 6:folded before Flop (didn’t bet)
Seat 7: (button) mucked [Jh 4s]
Seat 8: (small blind) folded on the Flop
Seat 9: (big blind) showed [4h Ac] and lost with three of a kind, Fours

I’m getting good at this. Of course, I’m not getting rich playing penny poker. I am just having a a good time playing. It’s good recreation. I play at the open tables to make enough to enter the sit&go tournaments. The tournaments are the fun part. It’s challenging to outlast 45 other people. I imagine i’ll play a whole lot of poker the few days after surgery next month. Reading, poker, and masturbation. The new holy trinity.

Poker loveliness

Ξ December 18th, 2005 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Poker |

I just won a nice amount of change in a penny poker game playing against a very loose player. He kept going all in, so I waited until I had a hand, and beat him once for 4 bucks, and then a few hands later hands later.. Well, this is how it unfolded.

Total pot $11.23 Main pot $5.54. Side pot $5.14. | Rake $0.55
Board [9s 8s 7s Js 9d]
Seat 1: showed [Ad Td] and lost with a straight, Seven to Jack
Seat 2: folded before Flop (didn’t bet)
Seat 3: (button) folded before Flop (didn’t bet)
Seat 5: MisterWolfe (small blind) showed [Ts Th] and won ($10.68) with a straight flush, Seven to Jack
Seat 6: (big blind) mucked [Kc 2c]
Seat 7: folded before Flop (didn’t bet)
Seat 9: folded before Flop (didn’t bet)

My first straight flush EVER! Woo!

I’d never played against such a loose player before, but I knew that if he kept going all in that I’d eventually get a good hand that would beat him. The first hand I beat him I had AA and got myself a flush. The second time a straight flush. Yay for me!

I haven’t been playing much poker lately because I find gambling for money pretty stressful. I only invested $25 bucks, less than the cost of my trips to the book store, but still, it’s anxiety provoking. I am up $10 from my initial invstment now so I will enter some tournaments. Tournaments are a lot of fun. Much more interesting than playing at an open table.

Thursday

I had a fun time playing a $1 sit&go tournament today. I came in 8th place, one spot out of the money. On my last hand I had J,J and the flop came down 10,10,6. I figured I was a high bet to win, and went all in. And the guy on the left of me had an A,10. So he flopped three 10’s. I had J,J 10,10 at the flop. The turn was uneventful. The river. A freaking 10. That gave me a full house, but the other dude had 4 of a kind. So I lost. But I made the right calls and played my best. I was happy.

There’s a new prepaid credit card coming on the market in Canada on Dec 15th. I’m looking forward to it. I’ll finally be able to buy things online without having to go through a hellish process. Basically, you go into the money place, give them money, they put it on a CC for you, and voila, you have a prepaid credit card worth whatever you put on it. Sweetness.

I need some recommendations for sci fi and fantasy authors/books/series to read. I’m looking for new authors or off the beaten path authors that write really unqiue stuff. Keep in mind, I’ve read a good 70% of what’s out there, so I really mean GOOD authors & books.

Our holidays are all planned. We’ve got a car booked, and we’re going to visit both of our families over the holidays. It’ll be fun to have a car for a bit. I do miss owning a car, but the expense really isn’t worth it since we live right downtown.

I’m trying to decide if I’m looking forward to the holidays. December has generally been a great time of year for me, so I’m hoping the trend continues!

The secret is out!

Ξ December 2nd, 2005 | → 2 Comments | ∇ Poker |

I made the plunge a few days ago and I’ve been playing poker for real money. Thus far I’ve made $5.06 playing games with .01/.02 blinds in about 2-3 hours worth of online play. I’ve transferred my original deposit back to my account so I don’t really lose anything. I started playing in the table with the $2 max you can play at the table. I won a hand fairly fast to get up to $2.86, then went on a bad beat and went down to about $1.20, and then stole some blinds to get up a bit more. On the last hand I played I went in with $1.30 and I got a QcJc and the flop came Ac Ks Tc, and I had a 10-A straight and a flush draw right off the bat, so I raised and reraised the last bet. The turn came up 9d, and I went all in. The river was 6c, which gave me a flush of clubs. And voila, I end up winning $4.04 from the pot.

Poker is mainly a game of patience. I’ve noticed that with the regular hold’em tables (non tournament), it’s actually easier to make money initially than in tournaments. The tournaments are played a lot tighter, where the single table play is much looser, which gives a tighter, more patient, player a bit of an advantage. Patience comes with sticking with the game and waiting for a playable hand. I like to see the flop so I’ll often call to see the pot, depending on my cards and position on the table. Sometimes you’ll be lucky with an odd draw and get something out of the hand. Of course, playing to see the flop whittles away at your stack slowly. Each time you see the flop it costs you the minimum big blind (.02 in this case). Tonight I played about 100 hands. Out of those 100 hands…

100 hands played and saw flop:
– 6 times out of 10 while in small blind (60%)
– 9 times out of 14 while in big blind (64%)
– 36 times out of 76 in other positions (47%)
– a total of 51 times out of 100 (51%)

Pots won at showdown – 9 out of 17 (52%)
Pots won without showdown – 10

The Pots won at the showdown at 52% is ok, but it also tells me I need to learn to read the table better and determine who has the stronger hands.

I keep reading my book on calculating odds of making hands in different situations. I still don’t really get it. Must. Learn. Odds. ptttthhht.

I’m now a confirmed gambler. Eeek!

I certainly won’t get rich playing penny poker, but it has added a bit of risk to the game and I am really enjoying playing a lot more than I was when playing at the free tables. I think once your skill level gets to a certain level, the free tables are just way too loose to really feel like you’re challenged. It’s -really- stressful being all in, even knowing you have the winning hand. A big challenge. Heh.

And a third

Ξ November 19th, 2005 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Poker |

And I won yet another poker tournament.

I really need to look into playing with better players. This means I’ll likely have to go to real money tables.

Another win

Ξ November 19th, 2005 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Poker |

I just won yet another poker tournament.

I read the book that I bought last night and got a number of good tips. I now know what cards to play in early, middle, and late positions.

I am having a hard time figuring out the whole odds thing. I know what cards have good odds, but I can’t calculate odds on the fly during a multiplayer game. I basically try to make an educated guess. It works for me so far, but if I ever get into money games I’d better learn more.

I am not watching UFC on TV tonight. I’m following the results through a MMA message board. I’ll watch the fights on Spike when they come out free.

Playing another tournament now. Will see how well I do.

Two things

Ξ November 17th, 2005 | → 0 Comments | ∇ General, Poker |

I still want to set up a poker night. No Limit Hold’em is the game. Games will either be on Sunday nights or Wednesday nights. Friends who are interested, please let me know what day works best.

I can accomodate up to 10 people.

Now, we can play for chips and fun, or we could add a small pot to it. In the case of a pot, it would be a small $10 + $2 buy in with 60% going to the winner, 30% to 2nd place, and 10% to third place. I’m easy either way.

I can’t remember the second thing. Fuck. Ummmm…

Oh! I might be ordering UFC 56 on PPV on Sat night. I have a tentative photo shoot some time that day though, and I won’t get confromation until tomorrow. If it turns out I have Sat night free, anyone want to come watch some mixed martial arts with me?
